UK Forensics Firm Paid Ransom in Cyberattack
UK forensics giant Eurofins Scientific reportedly paid ransom to the attackers behind a “highly sophisticated” ransomware infection that hit the organization last month.
BBC News reported today that Eurofins, which handles computer forensics, DNA testing, toxicology analysis, and firearms testing for UK police departments, paid the ransom in order to regain control of its data that was locked down in the attack.
Just how much ransom was paid was not known as of the BBC posting, but the National Crime Agency (NCA) told the media outlet it’s up to victims whether they pay up or not in a ransomware attack.
