Chinese Hackers Stole Classified US Navy Info
Hackers out of China breached the network of a US Navy contractor and stole classified military information that included plans for a supersonic anti-ship missile for submarines, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.
Navy Secretary Richard Spencer has ordered a cybersecurity review in the wake of the attack on a contractor for the US Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Rhode Island, the Journal reported. The attackers siphoned 63 gigabytes of data from the contractor’s unclassified network.
While the Navy has not officially put the blame on the Chinese government for the attack, the attack employed malware stored on a computer in Hainan, China, and employed tools known to be used by Chinese nation-state hacking teams.
