Former Airline Database Administrator Sentenced for Hacking Reservation System
A former database administrator at PenAir in a plea deal will serve a five-year probation sentence for hacking the airline’s Sabre database for its ticketing and reservation system.
Suzette Kugler, 59, of Desert Hot Springs, California, after her Feb. 2017 dismissal from PenAir hacked into its system between April and May 2017, apparently in retaliation for her firing. She used her insider knowledge of the database system to create phony privileged employee credentials, which she used to destroy critical data and to prevent airline employees from booking, ticketing, modifying, and boarding passengers during the attack.
US District Judge Sharon L. Gleason sentenced Kugler to five years of probation, 250 hours of community service, and a fine of $5,616 to PenAir for damages to the airline.
