Sacked Employee Demands $200,000 To Unlock Google Account
The Indianapolis-based American College of Education (ACE) has been served with a legal notice from a fired IT employee. Triano Williams is demanding $200,000 after the institution asked him for the password to its Google domain, which he changed before leaving, Tripwire reports. ACE has alleged that Williams refuses to share access to the account, which stores emails and coursework for 2,000 students.
Earlier this year, ACE asked Williams to relocate to Indianapolis or take a severance payout. He refused to do either and continued to work at ACE before he was sacked. He left without providing the password to the Google account, and the college was unsuccessful in getting it directly from the company. Upon asking Williams for the information, ACE was faced with a lawsuit seeking $200,000 in damages.
The college retaliated with another lawsuit against Williams and he was fined $248,350 by the court for failing to appear in court.
