Big sales growth nothing to do with NSA fears – Huawei top brass

Chinese kit-maker Huawei has denied NSA snooping fears have boosted the company’s sales outside the Middle Kingdom, despite recent bumper growth in Europe.

During the company’s full-year results 2014, sales in EMEA rose 20 per cent to ¥101bn (£10.4bn). Huawei’s overall group revenue hit ¥288.2bn (£31.4bn) for the year – up 20.6 per cent from 2013.

Speaking at a Huawei Networking Conference 2015 roundtable, Leon He, president of the Western Europe enterprise biz group, said: “I believe our business development in Europe is because [of our] own capabilities.

“More than one decade one entered telecoms sector in Europe. And [we have spent] quite a long time to ultimately get recognition from our customers.

“We do not comment on other vendors behaviour and the media coverage on other vendors. We can promise Huawei has never and will never do anything to harm our customers or partners.”

Recently Blighty’s spooks gave the Chinese giant the a clean bill of health, saying it posed no three to national security. He said Huawei was “glad” about the findings.

He also hinted the company was ready to make a lot more investment in Europe.

“There are more opportunities in Huawei enterprise business in Europe and in the future we will make more investment there.

“In the future we will contribute to Europe digital agenda and work harder on collaborate, contribute and contribute more RD in Europe.”

Europe’s digi Commissioner Gunther H-dot Oettinger has said he wants China’s help in deploying 5G – specifically calling on Huawei and ZTE. ®
